Vegan & vegetarian in a Viennese Beisl
Vegan and vegetarian food in Vienna, in a traditional pub
A Viennese pub where eating without meat does not mean ending up with just the side dish: we have a vegan schnitzel, vegan Mohnnudeln (poppy seed noodles) made with Waldviertel grey poppy seeds, lentils, a vegan bratwurst and more. The menu marks vegan and vegetarian dishes.
Vegan dishes and sides
We are not a fully vegan restaurant but a Viennese pub with its own vegan selection. This list comes straight from our menu, so it is always up to date, including the vegan sides.

Vegan schnitzel, bratwurst and lentils
The vegan schnitzel is breaded and fried like the original. The organic roast potatoes from the Bio-Hof Niedermayer, sweet potato fries or a salad go with it, and all of them are vegan. The vegan bratwurst comes with sauerkraut and organic fried potatoes, the lentils with boiled potatoes.
If someone at the table would rather have the Wiener Schnitzel made with veal, they order that: mixed tables are the norm here.
And the Kaiserschmarrn?
Our Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake) is vegetarian, not vegan: it is made with egg and milk and served with Zwetschkenröster (plum compote). The vegan sweet dish is the Mohnnudeln with Waldviertel grey poppy seeds, which are also served the classic way with melted butter.
Also vegetarian but not vegan are the homemade Käsespätzle (cheese noodles) with fried onions, the vegetable pan with homemade Nockerl (small dumplings), the fried Emmental, the pan-fried dumplings with organic egg and the apple strudel.
Frequently asked questions
How can I tell what is vegan?
The menu has separate sections for vegan and vegetarian dishes, and most dishes list their allergens. If in doubt, ask our staff.
Are there vegan options for groups?
Yes. For groups of 20 or more we agree the selection with you, vegan and vegetarian dishes included. More under group reservations.
Where do the ingredients come from?
We buy from regional Austrian suppliers. The roast potatoes, for example, come from the Bio-Hof Niedermayer in Lower Austria, the poppy seeds from the Waldviertel.
