Gansl season at the Mariahilferbräu
Roast goose in Vienna: leg, breast or the whole Martini-Gansl
In autumn we have Gansl (roast goose) on the menu: roasted until crisp, with apple red cabbage, dumpling, orange chestnuts and gravy. You order a leg, a breast or, for the whole table, the Martini-Gansl at 4.6 kg.
Gans’l leg and Gans’l breast
- Gans’l-Keule (goose leg), crisp, with apple red cabbage, potato dumpling or bread dumpling, orange chestnuts and gravy
- Gans’l-Brust (goose breast), crisp, with apple red cabbage, orange chestnuts, gravy and potato dumpling or bread dumpling
The Rotkraut (red cabbage) and Erdäpfelknödel (potato dumplings) are vegan and can also be ordered separately with other dishes.
The whole Martini-Gansl for the table
For a group there is the whole Martini-Gansl: 4.6 kg raw weight, roasted until crisp, with chestnuts and gravy. You choose the sides to go with it.
If someone at the table does not eat goose, they order from the regular menu, for example a Wiener Schnitzel made with veal or something vegan.
Gansl with colleagues or family
For 20 or more people, reservations go through the group enquiry. Indoors we have space for 170 guests, on request also as a closed event (geschlossene Gesellschaft). For the Christmas party there is a page of its own: Christmas party in Vienna.
Frequently asked questions
When is Martini?
Martini (St Martin’s Day) is on 11 November, the day of Saint Martin. In Austria this is the traditional time for the Martinigansl (St Martin’s goose).
Is a vegetarian or vegan Gansl dish possible?
Not the Gansl itself, but the sides Rotkraut (red cabbage) and Erdäpfelknödel (potato dumplings) are vegan. Our vegetarian and vegan main courses are on the page vegan & vegetarian food.
Which beer goes with Gansl?
We have nine beers on draught. A stronger beer goes well with roasts, such as the König Ludwig Dunkel or the Rotes Zwickl.
